7. Issue No. 0 - The Prologue (Part 2)

Well, here we go - we're almost three months since the last post and we're now deep into Issue No. 0! As you've probably seen, I've updated the video at the top of The Warrior's Journey page showing my progress so far. As of right now, I've completed 10 of the 17 total pages and have added in the sketch for what will ultimately be the cover for this beast.
Now, the last time I was here, I made a commitment to have this book completed by right now (actually) - and I was mostly on-track to meeting that goal. However, I pushed myself a bit too hard for the first 7-ish weeks, and it took a major toll on my health. I was working all day at my day job, coming home and immediately sitting down to work for another several hours, and getting 3-4 hours of sleep each night (maybe...). I wasn't exercising or eating right, and I was barely drinking anything. This project wasn't the total cause, but it was definitely a major factor to me developing a kidney stone that put me out of commission for the better part of three weeks. As painful an experience as that was, I was disappointed in myself for letting that happen, and even more disappointed that I wasn't going to meet my deadline.
That said, health definitely takes priority over comic art. I'm still working on completing this book, I'm just doing it at a much more relaxed pace. Although I won't be able to show/sell this book at my upcoming live Comic Con events like I planned, I'm hoping I'll be able to have it ready for the Craft Fair coming up in about a month from now. If it's ready, great - if not, that's okay, too. Regardless, I'm sure I'll talk non-stop about it at these events....
Last time, I could only show you the first two pages. Now, I can show you pages 1 - 10:

At the risk of being immodest, I'm pround to admit that I've completed a monumental amount of work! That said, I have four pages left to close out this action-packed introduction, and then I'll finally introduce the main character, Mike Sloane! Before the book ends though, the reader will get a close-up look of the narrator of this story - The Warrior himself! You and I know that Sloane and The Warrior are the same person, but up until this point, the reader won't know that (theoretically). I will then dedicate a couple of pages to showcase my own journey of creating this ground-breaking first comic book. Then, at the very end of the book, I plan on adding one more special page - kind of like one of those bonus scenes at the end of the credits in modern superhero movies. This page will show Commander Myrddin giving orders to two people - one is Kat Hall for a stealthy reconnaissance mission, the other is to Cole Tanner for a more underhanded black-ops mission to capture a certain individual and secretly return him to the MFA base as a prisoner. These missions will directly tie into events set to unfold in Issue No. 1.
I'm already getting excited to start laying out the pages for Issue No. 1, but first I need to finish Issue No. 0 - so I'm going to get back to it.
Until next time!
Matt Nickola
